Today we lay to rest our beloved Gran- my husband's Grandmother. She passed away last Sunday evening. Until recently she lived at home-but time took it's toll and she moved into respite care after a heart attack some weeks back.
She was a Great-grandmother of 12 and great-great grandmother of 7...meeting out two youngest grandchildren in the week prior to passing.
Gran taught me a lot-about relationships and family; about how to enjoy and appreciate each day. One of 10 siblings, she lived through the Great Depression and knew how to live within her means.
Dancing the night away in her younger years, she also loved sport ( being VERY competitive in nature), cooking and cards.
Cognitive until the end, I adored those opportunities I had to chat with her-discussing the differences and similarities between our two generations.
RIP Edna Barbara Saunders ( nee Arnott).
So sorry for your loss. She sounds like a strong woman and fun to go with it and lived a full happy life. How lovely that she got to meet her Great-great grand children before she passed away. My sympathy to you and your hubby,

Thanks Joolz-she was a special lady and we gave her a good send off! :)
DeleteI am sure you will miss such a lovely person and it sounds like you were very close to her, Deanne. You will have some great memories of her I am sure. How wonderful that she met those little bubs. What a joy that must have been for her.
ReplyDeleteBig hugs,
Chel
Thanks Chel-she would have loved her send off..at the end of the service the Minister came and asked our 7 yr old grandson ( her GG grandson) if he would bless the coffin with the Holy Water-it was a totally unexpected touch but was perfect...and was the absolute end of me holding it together! :)
DeleteSpecial to read your thoughts. We can learn so much from older people, if we just take the time to listen and ask questions.
DeleteMany Thanks for the shared this informative and interesting post with me.
