Although it was Father's Day here, His Lordship & I spent the afternoon in the backyard-mowing, trimming, moving strawberry beds and cleaning out the chicken coop.
I don't think that I've ever shared the interior of our hen's home-they spend the day outside free ranging in the orchard- with access to the coop via a ramp. The layer pellets, water & nesting areas are inside.
Wilma wondering why I'm standing there with the door open! |
There is one nesting box built as part of the shed-shown here being entered by a headless chicken! |
Looking back towards the door & ramp-we have used an old plastic dog kennel as a nesting box..the lid lifts up for easy access to the eggs. |
The Committee of Management waiting for me to vacate! |
The old manure laden straw is placed on one of the fallow garden beds. |
Chicken coop looking good, think mine is due for a revamp.
ReplyDeleteHi Sharon.... I still have to give it a sweep and scrub the walls behind the roosts-but getting a zinc coop on a concrete floor has meant that keeping the tidying up under control has been relatively easy. :) We had this erected before our house was even started!
DeleteLooks great. Lucky chooks.
ReplyDeleteThey seem happy Tracy. :)
DeleteYour chookies have a lovely home!
ReplyDeleteThanks- we lock them up at night to avoid the local foxes grabbing themselves a free meal! :)
DeleteLooks great! And yes, we did have some great weather yesterday for Father's Day.
ReplyDeletePS: New Sukin giveaway at my blog, hope you enter x
Will have a look Trish- I hope that pregnancy is going well! :)
DeleteGreat looking chicken coop Deezy! Your garden will love that manure/straw mix...
ReplyDeleteWe have had fox trouble this year. Luckily we had foxed proofed the main pen, but he still managed to grab one of our chicks before we spotted him in broad daylight. Very cheeky dropping by in the daytime!
I love scraping out the coop and spreading the straw on the garden- then feeding the scraps from the vegies which grow in the garden back to the chooks so we can start the cycle all over again!
ReplyDeleteThe foxes would have to get through two fences before getting to the girls-but I would never underestimate a hungry fox. ;)
Many Thanks for the shared this informative and interesting post with me.
